The first 16 months of my enlistment in the USN following basic, my command was organized and run by Marines except for the CO who was a hands-off USN CDR. The XO was an artillery Capt, the senior NCO was a Sgt Maj and the LPO equivalents were all SSgts and Sgts. My squad leader, Cpl Weber, ended up getting his butter bars after NROTC at your alma mater, Jocko, (class of ‘91). He wound up a platoon leader in a rifle company in the Fifth Marines. I’ll never forget how much I learned from those guys at just 18. Thanks so much for this one. It brought back a lot of great memories for a squid: PFTs, grooming standards, weekly inspections, uniform standards all up to USMC regulations. And of course regular PT where evolutions always ended with the exhortation: “one more for Chesty!” Just an awesome episode, Jocko and Echo; thanks again.
